Latest News on Building Project
March 13, 2022 – Dedication
We dedicated our new addition March 13, 2022. God has blessed us richly, and with our new elevator our entire building is accessible to individuals with mobility difficulties. The extra space is wonderful for fellowship and a place to gather and visit. On March 13 were fortunate to have the 4 Pastors that have served at Lord of Love throughout the years join us as we dedicated this new space.
August 22, 2021 Special voter’s meeting:
This past Sunday, the voters discussed and approved some additional items with our building project.
- Replace the garage roof. (This was already funded, but needed to be approved by the voters.)
- Replace the current church roof as it is 21 years old.
- Replace the basement flooring
- Add new flooring for the altar steps at the front of the sanctuary
- Add an automatic handicap operator on the north door
- Additional electrical outlets for the new kitchenette area
- Additional glass area in the new basement and west wall
We will use our already approved funding and existing building fund to complete these items, without incurring additional financing.
The voters decided to hold off on the estimated $10,000 cost of repainting the sanctuary and fellowship area. This can be revisited in the future as funding allows.
June 10, 2021: Our building permit has been issued and picked up from the Village of DeForest. God be praised!

On 04/27/21 the Village Planning and Zoning Committee held a public hearing for our conditional use permit to add onto our Church. No one spoke in opposition to our project. The Planning and Zoning Committee produced a written conditional approval of our project and voted unanimously to approve the project providing we meet the conditions of approval.
Some of the conditions include items that will add cost to the project. The Village would like us to present an architectural plan for landscaping to include the replacement of trees that will be removed for construction. In addition, they would like a lighting plan. This plan will need to be professionally produced. They would also like a plan for our trash bin enclosure. We are hoping to get by with a more rudimentary drawing of this feature so that we don’t incur more costs.
The Village wants us to meet storm water runoff requirements. The Village engineer is working on what those requirements will be. We have had limited communications with the engineer, and we don’t know what cost this will add to the project. We may need to adjust our plan to compensate for what could be significant costs associated with excavating storm water retention basins.

A member wanted to know why we do not re-shingle the existing roof while we are doing this project. We are seeking quotes and inspection for roofing. Our garage has noticeable shingle damage. Our main roof looks OK and has years of life left. Once we have more information, we will be able to answer the question.
The Elevator Building Committee
April 21, 2021
The Building Committee has been meeting about every 2 weeks since signing the contract with Advanced Building Corporation on March 11. Since the contract was signed, the Building Committee has chosen the color of the brick to match the existing brick on the church and chose the color and material for the south facing side of the church to replace the stucco. A couple of more immediate decisions that we will be making are finalizing the elevator design choices/colors and deciding on roofing materials for the addition.
Two additional items: 1) The Village of DeForest has decided that we need to apply for a conditional use permit and that permit will be addressed at the April 27 Planning and Zoning Committee meeting that is at 6 p.m. 2) The Village has informed us that we need to re-evaluate the storm water drainage system that is currently in place to account for the addition to the building. There has been some conflicting information regarding this, so we are working on clarifying the direction from the Village in order to understand the next steps.
Stay tuned!

On March 18, the building committee was introduced to ABC project manager Daniel Kleman. During our meeting we learned that the Bar Joist (things that hold the roof up) are back ordered out to November. Delaying the project would result in other costs so we are looking for a cost-effective alternative. Future work for the committee will include picking finishes for things like the elevator, flooring and more. Before we can build, our plans need to be approved by the State. We still expect that approval near the end of April.
We intend to use our own labor for some sweat equity to remove the brick face on the north side of the Church. Since we would like to preserve the brick, the work will be done carefully. We hope to begin this work after Easter. Steve Kalscheuer is coordinating this work.
The committee will be considering moving the trash bin pad away from the main entrance for the addition. This will make for a more welcoming entrance and improve the aesthetics with the window lines. Another possible change is to add parking stalls. A portion of the grassy area north of the addition will be graveled and used for construction storage and stagging. The original plan was to remove the gravel and return this to grass. We are exploring the cost of paving this area and adding parking to include additional disabled parking.
You will see a new sign on the property along Lake Road advertising our project and collaboration with ABC.
One of the projects approved with the addition was the installation of virus killing units in our furnace / air conditioning ductwork. This work may start as early as Thursday March 25. Four units will be installed now, and one will be installed on the system in the new addition.
